STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A cop killer already serving life for gunning down a Staten Island police officer in Brooklyn has added another conviction to his violent resume -- a jury on Wednesday found him guilty of shooting and robbing a man just hours before the officer's slaying.

A Queens jury found Dexter Bostic, 40, guilty of attempted murder and robbery, which means a possible 25 year prison term on top of the life sentence without parole he's already serving.

Bostic was one of three men prosecutors accused in the July 9, 2007 killing of Police Officer Russel Timoshenko of Bay Terrace. Timoshenko and his partner, Officer Herman Yan, had pulled over a stolen BMW SUV with the three men inside.

When the officers approached the vehicle, they were met by gunfire -- Timoshenko was hit twice in the face, and died five days later.

Lee Woods, 35, was behind the wheel. He was also sentenced to life in prison. A third suspect, Robert Ellis, 40, who was acquitted of murder and attempted murder, received 15 years.

The Queens case focused on an armed robbery Ellis and Bostic committed a day before the fatal shooting. Prosecutors said theywere riding in a stolen Porsche SUV when they confronted Carl Field, then 30, on a street in Queens.

Bostic opened fire on the man as he tried to run, shattering his femur, and then took $1,800 in cash, a chain, and the keys to his vehicle., prosecutors said.

"The defendant stands convicted today of participating in the cold-blooded shooting of an unarmed man who was then robbed of his possessions as he lay bleeding on the ground. He has proven himself to be a menace to others and deserving of the maximum sentence in order to hold him accountable for his actions and to protect society," said Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

Ellis, who served as the getaway driver, was sentenced to 25 years for the robbery in July 2012.
