EDISON — An Edison woman was killed early today after she was struck by a car as she crossed Route 1 in Edison early today, Edison police said.
Bianca Yodice, 21, was walking toward her job at Little Genius Academy, a child care center, police said.
Police said Yodice was crossing at a red light when a southbound car, driven by Cynthia Polynice, 25, of Iselin, struck Yodice.
Polynice's 2001 Silver lexus ES350 then careened off the highway, crashed into a utility pole and flipped on top of several cars in the Open Road BMW dealership, according to Tim Greeley, spokesman for the state Department of Transportation.
Two of the three BMW sedans damaged will likely be totaled, Bob Forcini, senior vice president of Open Road BMW, said.
The accident took place around 5:50 a.m. and the highway was closed for several hours in the area of Old Post Road. Northbound lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m., but the southbound lanes remained closed until 12:30 p.m. Traffic was detoured onto local roads.
